Nokia has yet to announce any model for this year but they have shown a few software upgrades for Symbian and Maemo.
Rumors have filled the world wide web about what the upcoming Nokia devices might. So far we have had rumors and a few sketchy photos of a N98 and X10.
Both phones are from the multimedia section of Nokia’s production line. No news on the business E series devices by the finish manufacturer.
Could they be skipping the E devices this year? Or are they finally ready to launch a full touch E series device? Until then have a sneak peek at the X10.
Intel and Nokia have blended Moblin and Maemo to release a new software called MeeGo. This new OS will be hosted by the Linux Foundation and it will also be completely open source.
MeeGo will be released by the second quarter of this year and we will see the first mobile devices running this OS by the end of the year. Here is what the guys at Nokia promise us that this linux based OS will provide for us:
- Global leaders Intel Corporation and Nokia merge Moblin and Maemo to create MeeGo, a Linux-based software platform that will support multiple hardware architectures across the broadest range of device segments, including pocketable mobile computers, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems.
- MeeGo offers the Qt application development environment, and builds on the capabilities of the Moblin core operating system and reference user experiences. Using Qt, developers can write once to create applications for a variety of devices and platforms, and market them through Nokia’s Ovi Store and Intel AppUpSM Center.
- MeeGo will be hosted by the Linux Foundation and governed using the best practices of the open source development model. The first release of MeeGo is expected in the second quarter of 2010 with devices launching later in the year.
- Nokia and Intel expect MeeGo to be adopted widely by global device manufacturers, network operators, semiconductor companies, software vendors and developers.
Nokia has launched a new app for the s60 V5 that I find quite interesting. Nokia Diagnostics was launched by betalabs and it is one of the most useful apps I have seen from Nokia.
This app is designed to run troubleshooting on the phones hardware and software. It determines whether your phone works in its optimal parameters. The first release is not for 3rd series Symbian but it is announced that it will come soon.
This first release has five test that it runs :
1. Network Coverage test
2. Internet connectivity test
3. Battery charger test
4. Loudspeaker &
5. Earpiece test
Hope that when it is released for the S60 V3 it has a bluetooth test for as we all know that is the most pressing issue with the E75.
Today, Nokia delivered a good news bad news annoucement: the good news is that OVI Maps are free and the bad news is that not for the E75.
Nokia has released a new version of OVI Maps and with it a ground shattering annoucement. OVI Maps are now free for all Nokia smartphone users but for now only to a select list of users. The E75 is not on the list but check your phone for updates because may find yourself surprised.
The official statement is that Nokia’sOVI Maps are free with turn by turn navigation to all Nokia smartphone users. And those whose devices are not on the list should check for updates because thay will add more deveices to the list.
So, guys let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope to see the E75 on that list until then check for software updates via OVI Suite/PC Suite or on you phone(*#0000#>Options>Check for Updates).
This month Nokia has released a bunch of updates for its devices. Whether they were 5th or 3rd Symbian OS editions they got an update, even its most recent devices such as the E72.
Among these was our beloved E75, although its update was sometime in December and announced sometime this fall. Most of the updated phones came as a surprise and the most important one was that of the 5800 who received an update to v40.
Anyway, the latest update for the E75 promised speed and improved overall performance. More on this update you can find here: http://thenokiae75.com/2009/11/17/nokia-e75-update-in-november/ The name of this update was 202.12.01. and if you haven’t updated your device yet you get it NSU(Nokia Software Updater) or OVI Suite.
And if you have more than one device you can go here:Can I Update? and follow the steps to get your latest available update.
Nokia has just announced that the lawsuit that they have against Apple has not been dropped but further more they are continuing their pursuit for justice and investigating Apple’s technology.
Nokia claims that Apple has built their technology on several of Nokia’s patents. Patents which give Apple devices lower manufacturing costs, smaller sizes and long battery life.
Traits that make the apple devices a lot more attractive but let’s see Nokia’s official statement on the matter:
“Nokia has been the leading developer of many key technologies in small electronic devices” said Paul Melin, General Manager, Patent Licensing at Nokia. “This action is about protecting the results of such pioneering development. While our litigation in Delaware is about Apple’s attempt to free-ride on the back of Nokia investment in wireless standards, the ITC case filed today is about Apple’s practice of building its business on Nokia’s proprietary innovation.”
Nokia is dropping Symbian for their Nseries devices, the said that by 2012 there will be no more Symbian powered smartphones.
Maemo seems to be the way to go as to what it regards the future N series phones. However, no news for the E series who seem to be keeping the Symbian OS as prefered for this type of phones.
The E series is the business segment, while the N series are the top of the line phones by the finish mobile phone producers. Let us hope they change their mind…
This is good news for you E75 users out there. Nokia has just announced that Quickoffice will be available for free for all E series device users.
Whether you have an E51 or an E75 this new feature is available for all. Also updates and upgrades are included in this deal. So if you do not have Quickoffice yet go and get your free of charge copy right now.
Nokia E72 has started hitting the shelves of a store near you. Nokia announced this new device going on sale worldwide just yesterday.
The E72 is a great follow up to the E71, as we all know a pretty great phone. Plus it takes it all to the next level with a faster processor, a 5 megapixel camera and a optical navigation central key. The last feature will make browsing a lot easier as it will function as a touchpad on a laptop.
Here is Nokia’s official statement on this device:
Thanks to powerful email and instant messaging capabilities, Nokia E72 has all the makings of an essential business tool. Mail for Exchange and IBM ® Lotus Notes ® Traveler deliver a business-grade email experience. With Nokia Messaging you can mobilise your private email and your instant messaging service*. Plus, with intuitive typing and navigation via the QWERTY keyboard and Optical Navi™ Key, 5 megapixel camera, A–GPS mapping, extended battery life, and its stylish design the Nokia E72 is the definitive smartphone for work and leisure. Nokia E72 will be available in a number of markets globally by the end of 2009.
The new Maemo powered device, N900, is featured as a business solution rather than a multimedia device. This new device comes with Mail for Exchange and a complete email and messaging solution.
What is really amazing about this phone is that it brings the power of a mini computer to a phone. It is the first device of its kind and it has been very well received by Nokia enthusiasts around the world.
Here is what Nokia has to say about this device:
Nokia N900, based on the powerful Maemo operating system harnesses the capabilities of the computer and the internet.
