Rumors of Nokia’s new releases for 2010

Nokia has yet to announce any model for this year but they have shown a few software upgrades for Symbian and Maemo.

Rumors have filled the world wide web about what the upcoming Nokia devices might. So far we have had rumors and a few sketchy photos of a N98 and X10.

Both phones are from the multimedia section of Nokia’s production line. No news on the business E series devices by the finish manufacturer.

Could they be skipping the E devices this year? Or are they finally ready to launch a full touch E series device? Until then have a sneak peek at the X10.

Intel and Nokia make MeeGo

MeeGo1 150x150 Intel and Nokia make MeeGoIntel and Nokia have blended Moblin and Maemo to release a new software called MeeGo. This new OS will be hosted by the Linux Foundation and it will also be completely open source.

MeeGo will be released by the second quarter of this year and we will see the first mobile devices running this OS by the end of the year. Here is what the guys at Nokia promise us that this linux based OS will provide for us:

- Global leaders Intel Corporation and Nokia merge Moblin and Maemo to create MeeGo, a Linux-based software platform that will support multiple hardware architectures across the broadest range of device segments, including pocketable mobile computers, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems.

- MeeGo offers the Qt application development environment, and builds on the capabilities of the Moblin core operating system and reference user experiences. Using Qt, developers can write once to create applications for a variety of devices and platforms, and market them through Nokia’s Ovi Store and Intel AppUpSM Center.

- MeeGo will be hosted by the Linux Foundation and governed using the best practices of the open source development model. The first release of MeeGo is expected in the second quarter of 2010 with devices launching later in the year.

- Nokia and Intel expect MeeGo to be adopted widely by global device manufacturers, network operators, semiconductor companies, software vendors and developers.

Nokia Diagnostics

Nokia has launched a new app for the s60 V5 that I find quite interesting. Nokia Diagnostics was launched by betalabs and it is one of the most useful apps I have seen from Nokia.

This app is designed to run troubleshooting on the phones hardware and software. It determines whether your phone works in its optimal parameters. The first release is not for 3rd series Symbian but it is announced that it will come soon.

This first release has five test that it runs :

1. Network Coverage test
2. Internet connectivity test
3. Battery charger test
4. Loudspeaker &
5. Earpiece test

Hope that when it is released for the S60 V3 it has a bluetooth test for as we all know that is the most pressing issue with the E75.

Ovi Maps Free Version

ovi maps Ovi Maps Free VersionThe new and Free version of Ovi Maps is not yet available for the E75 but I decide to review it so the E75 users around the world should decide if it is worth the weight.

Ovi Maps have three new features that make navigation a lot more fun and entertaining. The three apps that come with this new version are Weather, Events and Lonely Planet. And now let’s see why these three little apps are for…

Weather is exactly what you might expect from an app that has a name like this. Weather gives info on the current weather and for the next four days. When you click on a specific date from the forecast it shows a graph with the temperature fluctuation between 3am and 9pm each days. Also, it displays the time for sunset and sunrise.

Events show the nearest info about the latest events this includes cinemas, concerts and all the fun stuff for a week. So if you are in a new town and you want to have some fun check the list of events select which you would like to part and Ovi Maps will take you there.

Lonely Planet is for those who like sight seeing or are interested about fun facts about the places they are in. This includes a summary of the local history and small geography of the place. Also, this app includes a lot of info about the weather, means of transportation and other interesting facts that any traveler should know about the place he is in.

This three apps are very fun and very interesting not to mention useful. They work very fast but you will need a stable Internet connection to use them. In my opinion Ovi Maps is worth the wait especially if you are a traveler.

Sign apps tutorial

Some apps for the E75 and other symbian phones may come unsigned. To aid you in signing those without having to wait for it to get signed online I have put together a small tutorial on how to do it yourselves.

Step1 Registration: Just follow this link to the OPDA forums http://www.opda.net.cn/index.php. Now look at the pictures to register if you have never registered on a forum before. For this you need basic English language skills.

Step 2 Get your .cer and .key: This step is the most important. You have to login at the apple for cer page of the forums using your previous created id and password. Get your IMEI and type into the IMEI fields, type the model of the phone and press submit. Your new .cer and .key will be available for download ASAP.

Step3 Hack: Get two apps from here: Signer(to sign apps on your desktop)&HelloOX 2.03(to hack your phone and not sign anymore).

After that sign HelloOx with the signer app and copy it on your memory card.

Launch HelloOx from there and wait for it to install. Launch the App and wait for it to do its thing, if while runnig  this it stops or takes too long just hit cancel& restart phone. Run it again(woked for me).

This will install ROMPatcher , run it and turn on all options.

The Nokia E72 Day Three:Symbian OS

06 14 09e72vid 150x150 The Nokia E72 Day Three:Symbian OSAnd with the new year here is the day three of the E72 reviews. This time i will be talking about the OS of this Symbian powered device.

Symbian OS is still in the works because it has a few creeks and cracks. Although this time they did a better job than the E75. The OS is faster and has very cool theme effects.

The first bug I notice was the zoom function on the camera. When in film mode this slows playback making even freezing the image. Except for this small glitch in the OS this phone comes packed with apps.

You can really see the differnce between an usual Symbian OS and one made for the E series. To conclude, this one has a very good OS and the apps work excellent with this device.

Nokia continues investigations into Apple’s technology

Bogart Image 1 214x300 Nokia continues investigations into Apples technologyNokia has just announced that the lawsuit that they have against Apple has not been dropped but further more they are continuing their pursuit for justice and investigating Apple’s technology.

Nokia claims that Apple has built their technology on several of Nokia’s patents. Patents which give Apple devices lower manufacturing costs, smaller sizes and long battery life.

Traits that make the apple devices a lot more attractive but let’s see Nokia’s official statement on the matter:

“Nokia has been the leading developer of many key technologies in small electronic devices” said Paul Melin, General Manager, Patent Licensing at Nokia. “This action is about protecting the results of such pioneering development. While our litigation in Delaware is about Apple’s attempt to free-ride on the back of Nokia investment in wireless standards, the ITC case filed today is about Apple’s practice of building its business on Nokia’s proprietary innovation.”
