The new and Free version of Ovi Maps is not yet available for the E75 but I decide to review it so the E75 users around the world should decide if it is worth the weight.
Ovi Maps have three new features that make navigation a lot more fun and entertaining. The three apps that come with this new version are Weather, Events and Lonely Planet. And now let’s see why these three little apps are for…
Weather is exactly what you might expect from an app that has a name like this. Weather gives info on the current weather and for the next four days. When you click on a specific date from the forecast it shows a graph with the temperature fluctuation between 3am and 9pm each days. Also, it displays the time for sunset and sunrise.
Events show the nearest info about the latest events this includes cinemas, concerts and all the fun stuff for a week. So if you are in a new town and you want to have some fun check the list of events select which you would like to part and Ovi Maps will take you there.
Lonely Planet is for those who like sight seeing or are interested about fun facts about the places they are in. This includes a summary of the local history and small geography of the place. Also, this app includes a lot of info about the weather, means of transportation and other interesting facts that any traveler should know about the place he is in.
This three apps are very fun and very interesting not to mention useful. They work very fast but you will need a stable Internet connection to use them. In my opinion Ovi Maps is worth the wait especially if you are a traveler.
Today, Nokia delivered a good news bad news annoucement: the good news is that OVI Maps are free and the bad news is that not for the E75.
Nokia has released a new version of OVI Maps and with it a ground shattering annoucement. OVI Maps are now free for all Nokia smartphone users but for now only to a select list of users. The E75 is not on the list but check your phone for updates because may find yourself surprised.
The official statement is that Nokia’s OVI Maps are free with turn by turn navigation to all Nokia smartphone users. And those whose devices are not on the list should check for updates because thay will add more deveices to the list.
So, guys let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope to see the E75 on that list until then check for software updates via OVI Suite/PC Suite or on you phone(*#0000#>Options>Check for Updates).
This month Nokia has released a bunch of updates for its devices. Whether they were 5th or 3rd Symbian OS editions they got an update, even its most recent devices such as the E72.
Among these was our beloved E75, although its update was sometime in December and announced sometime this fall. Most of the updated phones came as a surprise and the most important one was that of the 5800 who received an update to v40.
Anyway, the latest update for the E75 promised speed and improved overall performance. More on this update you can find here: http://thenokiae75.com/2009/11/17/nokia-e75-update-in-november/ The name of this update was 202.12.01. and if you haven’t updated your device yet you get it NSU(Nokia Software Updater) or OVI Suite.
And if you have more than one device you can go here:Can I Update? and follow the steps to get your latest available update.
Some apps for the E75 and other symbian phones may come unsigned. To aid you in signing those without having to wait for it to get signed online I have put together a small tutorial on how to do it yourselves.
Step1 Registration: Just follow this link to the OPDA forums http://www.opda.net.cn/index.php. Now look at the pictures to register if you have never registered on a forum before. For this you need basic English language skills.
Step 2 Get your .cer and .key: This step is the most important. You have to login at the apple for cer page of the forums using your previous created id and password. Get your IMEI and type into the IMEI fields, type the model of the phone and press submit. Your new .cer and .key will be available for download ASAP.
Step3 Hack: Get two apps from here: Signer(to sign apps on your desktop)&HelloOX 2.03(to hack your phone and not sign anymore).
After that sign HelloOx with the signer app and copy it on your memory card.
Launch HelloOx from there and wait for it to install. Launch the App and wait for it to do its thing, if while runnig this it stops or takes too long just hit cancel& restart phone. Run it again(woked for me).
This will install ROMPatcher , run it and turn on all options.
And with the new year here is the day three of the E72 reviews. This time i will be talking about the OS of this Symbian powered device.
Symbian OS is still in the works because it has a few creeks and cracks. Although this time they did a better job than the E75. The OS is faster and has very cool theme effects.
The first bug I notice was the zoom function on the camera. When in film mode this slows playback making even freezing the image. Except for this small glitch in the OS this phone comes packed with apps.
You can really see the differnce between an usual Symbian OS and one made for the E series. To conclude, this one has a very good OS and the apps work excellent with this device.
