SKYHOOK Wireless is the company that patented the Wi-Fi positioning system, or WPS, and in partnership with Staron and Ovi Store will bring two new apps.
Near Here is an app that according to your location pin-points the location any near by venues, such as restaurants, theaters, hospitals and many others.
When you are close to a restaurant you can book a reservation. Plus, Near Here app also gives turn-by turn indications to the specific location. For ease of access you can search nearby locations according to category. This app can be found in the Ovi Store at 2.99 $.
I Parked Here is, if you ask me, a very useful app. Especially if you live in a big city and you tend to forget where you parked. Furthermore I Parked Here features a parking meter alarm, thus you can avoid getting a fine.
Turn-by-turn directions are available in this app as well as in the Near Here one. Plus, it uses various maps and you don’t need a GPS fix for either apps.
If you liked what you read so far try those two apps and you will not regret it. More details for this two you can find at staron.mobi.
The latest rumors from Nokia are about two new series : C-series and X series. As we all know Nokia has three main categories for its phones.
The N Series, the category for high-end multimedia devices, E Series, the business one, and last but nor least is the four digit one, for cheaper and phones with varied functions. Now Nokia seems to be interested in launching two new ones.
The two new series are not clear what they will stand for or if that is only a rumour. In my opinion those new series might be for the new touch phones Nokia has announced for this fall.
For several months I have been asking myself what is the best GPS software for Nokia. So far the only ones I have tested are Route 66, Garmin Mobile XT and Nokia Maps 3.0.
In truth, there is not much of a difference between them except the fact that it depends on your location. If you live in any of the major cities of Europe or US&Canada then the maps and detail are quite accurate with OVI Maps 3.0. But in my country they have only major streets in major cities. Also, positioning on OVI Maps 3.0 is quite poor, because of the lack of detail in the maps and it took me like ten to fifteen minutes to locate a satellite when I first started it. So, Nokia’s Software Solution for GPS, proved to be quite ineffective for me.
Next was Route 66, which has more detail than the later but still not the detail I was looking for. Also, it is very hard to locate a destination by its address because of that lack of detail. Only major roads and major cities, but they seem to be improving. I remember an N95 with Route 66 and how when I tried to locate an address it showed some town in France instead of what I was looking for. But, that was a couple of years ago lets hope they will fix it because they have some serious competition.
Last but not least was Garmin Mobile XT, which proved to be perfect. Its accuracy was amazing, it contained even major streets in some villages. Also, it found GPS signal very fast and navigation was spot on. Plus, the maps are very well detailed, with each apartment building having its name. Furthermore, a neat feature was the search by postal code one. A very neat trick in my book, I do not know if the previous ones have it because I did not waste a lot of time on them. In my book Garmin is by far the best of test GPS Software, the guys at Garmin really know their stuff.
To conclude, choosing a GPS software for your Nokia phone depends on your location and where you want to go. If you are looking for major cities in the world than any GPS will do. But if you are looking for other cities around the world I suggest you give Garmin a go.
Today I thought about writing a review on a device that keeps your Nokia E75 safe from scratches and other harmful stuff. And I found just the one. The Proporta Aluminium Lined Leather Case, combines design and practicality.
Not many cases are available for Nokia E75, but this E75 case we will review must be one of the better ones around the web, feel free to comment this Nokia E75 cases/shells article after reading this Proporta Case for Nokia E75 review.
To begin, I will weight the pros and cons of this Nokia E75 case; and like any “good news/ bad news ” situation the pros come first.
How to test a Nokia phone? Well the guys in this video seem to have some pretty good ideeas. Of course this look like good ideas only if you are drunk or bored out of your mind.
So, guys, you should really think twice before doing this to your Nokia. Also, this serves as a reminder to all of you why you bought your Nokia device.
This post falls into the category of things not to do with yourE75. Enough talking let us watch.
Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0has been released and I have been testing it for a few days now. I must say the guys at Ovi are on to something with their new suite.
With the new suite you have all you need in just one window no need to launch other applications. Each function has its own tab which are very easy to access. Just point and click; the selected tab will turn full screen in no time. All the other applications such as Nokia Messaging and Nokia Software Update are all here. To sync your data with the Ovi Suite just press sync on the data you want to be synced.
Now lets talk design, well in this area I am very pleased with Nokia. The design is simple, fast and elegant. Just the one window as I said with beautiful animations and a sense of simplicity. The message tab shows the message and a picture of the one who send as a photo slide show. Plus, the messaging windows displays all your messages as if you were chatting.
However the Ovi Suite 2.0 is just a Beta so here is a list of known issues:
The Helps are not yet complete
Messaging:
Multimedia messages (MMS) are not yet supported in Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0
Software Updates, device firmware update:
If automatic download is enabled and in progress, it continues in various places although download should end. This causes delays when shutting down Nokia Ovi Suite.
Device may not be recognized after a device firmware update. In these cases check whether Windows recognizes this. If not, restarting Windows helps.
If Nokia Ovi Suite is minimized to tray during a device firmware update, the firmware update wizard cannot proceed to firmware update, the wizard ends with an internal error.
Software Updates, Nokia Ovi Suite update:
Problems shutting down Nokia Ovi Suite from Software Updates. You may need to end NokiaOviSuite.exe file using task manager.
First Time Use & connectivity:
Automatic adapter installation (if installation fails in First Time Use à “postponed” is shown)
Media Transfer mode: May contain issues
Problems may occur with multiple devices over Bluetooth connection (active connection established and a new device is paired to Nokia Ovi Suite at the same time) with certain Bluetooth stacks
Music:
On some computers Nokia Ovi Suite is unable to show music content in watch folders. (User has to add those tracks manually)
With certain device models music playlists may not transfer to device
With certain device models music playlists may not be shown from device
Sometimes you have to manually refresh (F5 button) before transferred content is shown from the device
Music purchased from Nokia Music Store: you can transfer music into your device using Nokia Ovi Suite. However, you need to re-license music with device when playing music tracks
Crashes sometimes happen during transfer and when creating playlists
Cancel button in Music tab of options dialog does not work
The error message is not shown when disconnecting the device during transferring
I have bought an E51 from Orange about an year ago and the phone kept crashing my applications. I couldn’t even update to the latest version of firmware. Thus, I started looking for a solution; the fastest and cheapest one was to reflash my phone. If your E75 is branded and it is leggy or you can’t update the firmware then you can choose to do as I did. But, before you start, read the notes at the bottom of this post.
How I did it: First you need two programs Nemesis and Nokia Software Updater. The later you can get at Nokia’s official website nokia.com. However, Nemesis you can download it from HERE and the product codes from HERE. Now, follow this simple tutorial:
Connect your phone selecting PC Suite and open Nemesis. After you open Nemesis if there is an error and the software can’t detect your phone than it is time for a reboot.
In Nemesis click on the Magnifying Glass in the upper right corner.
Click on Phone Info and Scan.
Now, click on Read.
Under product code insert the product code of the region you want your phone to be reflashed. And tick Enable next to it.
And after these steps just click on Write and you can close Nemesis. DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR PHONE!
Run Nokia Software Updater and update to the latest version .
That’s all folks.
* NOTE THAT THIS TUTORIAL WORKED FOR ME BUT I DO NOT HAVE ANY WARRANTY THAT IT WILL WORK FOR YOU. THIS MAY CAUSE YOUR PHONE TO BRICK DO IT AT YOUR OWN PERRIL.
**THE MUST BE FULLY CHARGED AND CONNECTED TO THE PC AT ALL TIMES DURING THIS TUTORIAL.
